My name is Bayley Simpson and I am an 19 year old, aspiring cyclist from Lindsay, Ontario. I am a grade 12 Graduate and Ontario Scholar.
Four short years ago, I was playing rep hockey, numerous school sports, and racing my road and mountain bikes, mostly for fun. My life completely changed, when Rob Good invited me to be a part of his cycling team, based out of the Forest City Velodrome, in London, Ontario. I first set foot in the FCV in February of 2013, and learned to ride on the track. Weeks later, I won a set of carbon wheels, at the 2013 FCV Youth Championships... I was hooked and had to get a track bike!
Most of the FCV team trained on the road in the spring & summer, and on the track during the fall & winter, so for the first time, I began to seriously train year round. My parents and I made numerous long trips to the FCV, where Rob quickly began to see my potential on the track. With his support and encouragement over the next 3 years, track cycling became the cycling discipline I truly excelled at!
As a Junior, I earned 3 Junior National Championship titles in 2014 & 2015, and 2 top ten finishes at the Junior World Championships in 2015. In 2016, as an Elite, I helped make history; earning Canada’s first ever World Cup medals (Bronze & Gold) in the Men’s Team Pursuit.
Today, I have completely committed myself to cycling, and have the good fortune of training and racing my track and road bikes around the world, as part of Cycling Canada’s NextGen Men’s Track Endurance program. Looking to the future, I hope to be part of the Canadian Track Cycling Team for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and eventually become a member of a Professional Road Cycling Team.
I truly appreciate the support provided by my parents, extended family, friends, coaches, local cycling community, as well as the generous sponsorship provided by local business, Ontario and Canadian cycling organizations. Together with focus, hard work, dedication and persistence, this support has helped get me to where I am today, and for this I am very grateful!
