Hopes Crashed at World Championship

Heart wrenching disappointment, as Bayley and the entire Canadian Men’s Team Pursuit squad are taken down in a dramatic crash in Hong Kong, at the 2017 Track Cycling World Championships.

In the qualifying round of the Men’s Team Pursuit, as the New Zealand squad was passing, their fourth rider’s back wheel touched Bayley’s front wheel, causing all four Canadians to go down at over 60 km/hr.  Extensive debate ensued about the cause, as videos of the crash went viral… ultimately, most blamed the change in format, which held qualifiers with two teams on the track at the same time.  (Note: UCI  has now changed qualifying round format back to only one team on the track!)

Although this unfortunate incident was extremely disappointing for the Canadian squad, their tremendous progress in training, and their incredible results this season, at the two World Cups, cannot be overlooked.  These men have made history, created a following in the Track Cycling world, and will continue to make Canada proud in the 2018 season!
