Bayley had a great first day of the Omnium, at the 2015 Track Cycling World Championships, starting out with a WIN in the Scratch Race!
With an extremely strong field of riders, representing 23 countries, the Omnium consists of 6 races over 2 days. There are individual events and group races, requiring both sprint and endurance disciplines. The Omnium truly challenges the best all round track cyclists from each country!
Bayley won his first Omnium event, the Scratch Race, showing that he truly deserves to be amongst the best in the world… He was one of 3 riders who lapped the field during the race, and the ONLY the one who managed it solo! Bayley then raced safe and smart, ensuring that no other attempts to lap the field stayed away, and that he beat the other two riders, in the final sprint, taking the race win!
For the second Omnium event, Bayley then did a personal best time in the 3K Individual Pursuit, finishing 7th.
The Elimination Race started with utter chaos, as the first rider eliminated did not leave the track, and so the entire race eventually had to be stopped and then restarted. Bayley was disappointed to get caught in a bad position and get eliminated much earlier than he should have, finshing 17th … there is no room for error, when competing against the best in the world!
Tomorrow is a new day, and 3 more challenging events!
